50 Student & UK Education Experts To Follow On Twitter

If you're a regular Twitter use, feel free skip down to the next section on the right hand side.

What does TV and Twitter have in common?

Now that much of the tedious hype surrounding Twitter has died down, it's possible to take a second look at the service with some balanced perspective.

Whenever anything becomes incredibly hyped, some people will instinctively want to criticise it so as to be seen to be different.

That's not to say that some criticisms aren't valid, they could be but they must be considered in the overall context of all free services that enhance the web.

Creating a twitter account and adding users from a similar interest field such as home improvement or gardening is like having a real-time information channel.

The main difference between the gardening section of your preferred news website and Twitter is that,

(1) You control the information you read. If you decide you aren't getting any value out of following a particular user, you simply choose to no longer follow them and their tweets (their ideas, advice and musings).

(2) It's live and can be interactive. Most websites can't announce stories as fast as Twitter can and often the article writer doesn't participate in the comments section. By contrast, Twitter is all about having conversations with people who share similar interests.

Live TV always has an edge to it that pre-recorded programmes can't replicate. Twitter is the online information equivalent.

You can't dismiss Twitter entirely because of the lack of quality in certain areas, just as you can't dismiss TV if you dislike certain channels.

The quality and value is there in abundance if you know where to look.

Resources Via Twitter For Teachers, Parents & Students

Whether you are a student, teacher, parent or guardian chances are you have an interest in the UK education industry, student issues and how technology is evolving within these areas.

With that in mind, I've come up with a list of Twitter users who I recommend you should follow.

I'm not claiming for a second that it's the definitive list and apologies if there's anyone really obvious who has been left out.

Think of it as a way to either kick start your own Twitter profile or enhancing your existing account with a new information channel (ie. Twitter list)

Since the list was created, I find myself using it quite a lot on Twitter as a way of keeping up to date with the latest student and teacher issues in the UK.

If anyone has any recommendations for other Twitter lists or to suggest someone who is more worthy of a place in the list, you can reach us via @studentsoftware.

More lists will be added to our account shortly. Enjoy!
