Add pictures to your Microsoft Office documents:
Increase your word count by thousands

If you're trying to impress your teacher or lecturer (or heaven forbid, your boss), a standard plain Microsoft Office text document is not going to stand out from the crowd. What you need are pictures to make it memorable. Plus, if a picture is worth a thousand words, as the old cliché goes, then why not simply insert five pictures into your assignment, and about ten words of text. Voila, there's your Word Count already. Or maybe you're writing an account of your holidays to Magaluf to send to your friends and colleagues; it won't be much use without some pictorial evidence.

But how do I add my pictures to documents? Or how do I attach my photos from CD or camera to an email? It's not actually all that difficult, and this How To guide will show you how simple it really is!

Locating your pictures and photos

Firstly, you'll need to locate your pictures. Whether they're on a camera, on a CD, or on a memory key or hard drive, you'll need to know where they are so you can easily add them to your document. Once you know the exact location (for example C:\Documents and Settings\Frank\My Documents\ ), you're ready to add them to Microsoft Office!

What if the image you want to add are not on your computer, you ask? How do I save a picture from the internet, and copy it into my document?

Saving pictures from the internet is relatively simple. All you need to do is find the picture you're looking for, Right Click and choose "Save Picture As" or "Save Image As" from the dropdown menu. You will then be prompted to choose where to save your picture. Take note of this location, as you'll need to know where the picture is when pasting it into your document.

Adding pictures to your documents

It couldn't be easier to add pictures and photos in Microsoft Word 2007. Simply go to the "Insert" section of the ribbon at the top of the window, and choose "Insert Picture". Then you will have to locate the image you want to add, and once you've found it, click "Insert"!

In Microsoft Word 2003, it's just as easy. Wait a minute? You're still using Word 2003? Have you not updated to Word 2007 yet? It's much better, and once you get used to the new interface, you'll never look back! Anyway, for those of you in the dark ages still using Word 2003, all you need to do is go to the "Insert" toolbar, select "Insert Picture", locate your photograph, and hey presto! A pretty document.

Adding pictures to your emails

You've been home from Pontin's for two weeks now, and Debbie is still nagging you about holiday snaps; isn't it about time you sent her a few, just to keep her happy? Adding photos to emails is also a pain-free process. In Microsoft Outlook 2007, select the "Insert" tab in the ribbon, and then "Insert Picture", select your image, and you're done.

In Microsoft Outlook 2003, the process is similar. Select the "Insert" toolbar, then "Insert Picture", locate your photo, and voila!

Now you know exactly how to add pictures and photos to your Office documents and emails, making you stand out above the crowd.
