University Students: How
Clever Are Your Notes?
by

posted Monday 6th October 2008 09:05 GMT
University student life, especially for
freshers, can be like a rollercoaster ride for the first few months.
Suddenly you are in a new place, with new friends, enjoying a new sense
of freedom. It can be difficult to stay on top of things.
In particular, taking quality notes at lectures and understanding how to
get the most from them.
At University, reading books and remembering facts is not enough. To
succeed, a student needs to take note (literally!) of how the lecturer
interprets those facts, theories or ideas and what conclusions or
debates can arise from them. Later you can then dissect this knowledge
and draw your own conclusions.
Passing exams is not merely about knowing the relevant facts or
techniques, it is about showing the academic staff that you can put your
own individual stamp on things.
To create your own argument, theory or artistic expression, you're going
to need some help. That's where OneNote 2007 software comes in.

The difficulties of taking quality notes.

OneNote 2007 is the smart way
to learn. |
|
Develop Your Own Ideas
During your course you can write and photocopy
all the notes in the world but ultimately, most courses involve sitting
an exam and being faced with blank sheets of paper on which you have to
write.
So where are your own ideas, backed up with the official facts and
theories, going to come from?
It's at that precise moment when a successful student will recall all
the work they did using OneNote.
Software which allowed them to combine handwritten notes, webpages,
graphics and more so that they created their own knowledge base - in
effect, creating an unique digital handbook in their own words tailored
to their subject.
The sum of all that information and that gestation of ideas can now be
put forward via the exam paper.
|
What The Argument Has Changed
Throughout your study you should constantly ask
yourself, "why are these ideas accepted?" If there's a better way of
doing something or you have a new vision or theory you believe in, then
you can use OneNote to build up the facts and alongside it, build up
your own argument for change.
Being organised will not only greatly assist your studies for that
eventual exam day, it will also help free up more of your time so you
can enjoy all the activities on offer - as well as eliminating the
stress of realising that your notes aren't up to scratch!
3 Key Points To Remember
- take quality notes
- formulate your own ideas with origins from current theories and
practises because that's what your examiners want to see
- be organised so you have more time to Party!
Buy OneNote now and get organised.

Keeping Your Email Safe & Secure by SoftwareGuru posted Monday 22nd September 2008 13:16 GMT
Last week the Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin had her Yahoo! email account hacked and private emails were made public. While she may be a public figure, the truth is that free email accounts such as Yahoo! are wide open to hacking and it can happen to anyone.
At Software4Students, we receive a lot of calls from potential customers asking us which Microsoft Office package we recommend. Our answer is always the same: Standard, Pro Plus or Enterprise each have their merits but do not buy the Home & Student version.
Why? It doesn't come with Outlook.
It's easy to fall into the trap of thinking, "why do I need Outlook when I go to a website to check my email?" and that's exactly the same school of thought which brought huge embarrassment to Sarah Palin.

Outlook 2007 is the smart way to email | |
Protect Your Privacy
Setting up your email in Outlook takes less time then making a cup of tea.
Work and personal emails can all be filtered through Outlook and with inbuilt calendars and reminders, it's a lot easier to remember birthdays, events, etc.
And for around 87p per month, you could even have your own unique email address.
Example: mail@JohnSmith.co.uk (87p per month) or John_Smith_203@yahoo.co.uk (free)
|
Take Control Over Your Email
The most popular free email providers, such as Yahoo!, are prime targets for hackers.
Therefore, if you don't want an unique email, you can still use the free email address you received with your mobile phone or ISP. Set it up in Outlook and away you go.
And because Outlook will remember your details, you can come up with a strong alpha-numeric password. With mobile internet set to grow dramatically, you'll be able to access your emails on your phone using the same techniques.
It's only when you lose your mobile phone that you wish you had backed up your numbers. All that and more is possible with Outlook.
It's YOUR inbox - time to take the power back!

11 August
Hi Everyone,
greetings from the Software4Students team. Firstly, we'd like to apologise if you've found the site being slow to load today. The more popular the site becomes, the more prone our servers are to becoming overloaded during peak hours such as lunchtime. We're doing all we can to keep things running smoothly and we really do appreciate your patience at this time.
Meeting the demands of users
With the majority of web users now having access to broadband, web companies are being faced with new problems and new challenges to overcome.
You may have experienced this at first hand, whether trying to buy Take That comeback tickets online at 9am (good luck!) or trying to stream a football match live only to find the club's official site has gone down under the traffic load (that'd be Liverpool Football Club).
Software4Students, just like the web in general, is trying to keep up with constant consumer demand and improve more and more every day.
As always, if you have any questions that can't be answered by our FAQ, please do not hesitate to contact us either by email (support@software4students.co.uk) or by phoning during Office Hours 020 7193 5335.
Our customer service team will do everything they can to help.
Questions we get asked
- Your school isn't listed in our database? Tell us and we'll add it ASAP. - Looking for your product key? It's printed on the orange label on the other side of your Official Microsoft cd/dvd wallet. - Having trouble installing your software? Make sure you uninstalled your trial Office software first.
Please note that Software4Students offers support for the purchase of software and NOT in the installation and use of the software product. Microsoft, Kaspersky and Notion Music have dedicated customer departments who will happily help you install the product.
Facebook Campaign
And finally, thanks goes out to those of you who have joined our Facebook campaign and registered as fans - if you want top software companies to give students and family members the best deals then join us now!
