Build Your PC Using Windows 7 Professional Upgrade

Family Computer Software Bargains.

by SoftwareGuru

At Software4Students we write regularly about software such as Windows 7 upgrade.

In terms of hardware, computers have long held an image of being extremely complicated devices that the average person could not possibly understand how they were put together.

Why is it then that computers have changed so much in recent years and yet most people would never dream of building their own PC?

It may seem a daunting prospect initially, however, computer manufacturing has come a long way since the 1980s.

In 2009, PC assembly is no longer the highly skilled job it once was, largely due to the fact that modern parts are designed so that they can be assembled quickly and simply without the need for lots of technical knowledge.

The low paid nature of the job can be seen in companies like Dell who are moving their European manufacturing operation from Ireland to Poland in 2010.

To get the most value for your money in relation to computers, it is best to buy the parts separately and put it together yourself.

All the information you need can be found online:

YouTube instruction videos, 'build a pc' web articles, compare prices between online computer component retailers, and for parents and guardians - the cheapest software prices around here at Software4Students.

Still need convincing? Read on for more surprises.

Easier Than You Might Think.

If we perceive something to be difficult or expensive, it can be hard to change that outlook.

For many parents, they still perceive home user software to be expensive and that computers are complicated things that they could never dream of putting together.

All of which is thinking that went out of date with Simon Cowell's hairstyle!

Building IKEA furniture or baking a cake is a lot trickier than putting a PC together nowadays.

For example, a few months ago I bought a new motherboard, a new CPU, and new RAM - essentially some new internal organs for a computer.

Everything either clips or slides into place and wires, albeit small, are no trickier to put in the right place than learning what all the buttons on your car dashboard can do.

What surprised me the most was adding the CPU to the motherboard. You open a latch, firmly place the CPU in the placeholder, add some thermal paste, close latch, job done.

That's barely a step above replacing the batteries in the telly remote control.

In fact, give me a choice between building IKEA furniture and PC components and I'll build a PC any time - no hammer required.

The best part? I saved a lot of money by doing it myself and I'd learned to do something new which gives you even more satisfaction.
Resources for PC Building.

So with Christmas 2009 approaching, putting together a family PC at home - on a budget - is definitely easier than you might think.

Here are some resources to get you started:

YouTube Video Guides: How To Build A Computer (searching for your component name in YouTube will likely provide a specific video for it).

Articles: Christmas 2009 System Guide (U.S. prices but the component parts are excellent examples of what to look out for in UK).

Practical advice from users: Windows 7 Forums.

The peripherals such as a monitor, keyboard and mouse are all as easy to connect to your computer as attaching a power supply to a toaster.

It used to be that there was a different socket for every cable but now most cables for peripherals all use USB, a concept familiar to anyone who has ever seen an iPod or iPhone.

You can always splash the cash on a wireless keyboard and mouse and remove wires altogether.

Lastly, you're going to need software on your new computer which is where Software4Students can help.

Our cheapest option for your operating system is currently Windows 7 Professional Upgrade which you can clean install if you've read this S4S article.

From Microsoft Office to Kaspersky AntiVirus or even Sibelius Music, families will find bargains here on a variety of official software.

At Software4Students you'll always get more for less.
