Kaspersky 2009 Tips & Advice for Internet Security and AntiVirus.

As our lives become more reliant on computers and the internet, it's worth taking the time to protect ourselves from net nasties.

Spam, malware and viruses are some of the things that can cause damage to a family computer or personal laptop.

Before discussing Kaspersky 2009, let's go over the basics.

These days you would be INSANE to run an illegal copy of Windows. It's like investing in a house and then trying to save money by not buying a front door. It is that fundamentally important.

Online PC users with a genuine version of Windows receive free weekly updates via Windows Update. This ensures that a minimum level of protection is maintained. Vista users also benefit from Windows Defender which removes spyware.

However, as more internet users download illegal distributed content such as music and films, as well as running file-sharing programs such as Limewire, Soulseek or BitTorrent, there's a good chance that home computers may unwittingly become infected.

Add-in email attachments, viruses in social networking inboxes that appear to have come from friends, and even surfing the web using links whereby you're not even sure which site you'll open next....all of this danger leads us to Kaspersky 2009.

Hands-on with Kaspersky 2009

Kaspersky 2009 adds a new user interface and new innovative features. A full in-depth list of changes can be found at kaspersky.com

Upon using the program, the new improvements become clear:

1. Graphs: KIS (Kaspersky Internet Security) now shows some attractive graphs to highlight network usage and how many objects are currently being scanned. A great addition, you no longer need to spend a few minutes locating the correct logfile to see what KIS is doing.

2. Logs: The logs now show more detail via a “Tree view” which means you can find all activity for a specific application, you can even search!

3. Virtual Keyboard: This seems like a great way to enter data if you want to avoid keyloggers that steal your passwords.

4. Block network activity: This will lockdown your machine so that nothing can communicate with it. Essential if you want to check for problems without physically disconnecting your internet cable.

If you need help setting up and configuring Kaspersky 2009, there is a fantastic walk-through guide hosted in their official forum.
