Under normal circumstances the big news in this blog post would
be the fact that Software4Students now offers digital downloads
to UK customers.
The likes of Microsoft Office and Windows 7 can now be
downloaded after online purchase instead of receiving a physical
product in the post.

The really big news is in relation to Office 2010.
Customers who purchase Office 2007 via Software4Students between
March 5, 2010 and September 30, 2010, may acquire Office 2010
software when it becomes available at no additional license
cost.

As discussed previously, there are huge piracy concerns for
Microsoft as regards digital downloads.
We strongly encourage all our customers to read the FAQ so as to
avoid any confusion or disappointment later.

personally I'd recommend ordering the Windows DVD when upgrading
your operating system.
Due to technical requirements, Official copies of Windows 7
purchased via digital download are required to be transferred to DVD-R
for use.
Older PCs with cheap CD/DVD drives may struggle to install from
a DVD-R correctly and increases the possibility of installation
problems on older computers.
Many parents are used to the idea of machine parts wearing out
whether it's a washing machine or a television.
A computer is no different in the sense that it too has parts
which due to constant use will eventually wear out.
You wouldn't expect the cheapest pair of trainers in a store to
last the longest and hardware is often no different.
One solution is to keep your operating system on your first hard
drive and use a second for downloads, games and any other large
files that will be written to the drive regularly.
