Microsoft Office 2010 Still King Among Princes
Roll Out The Red Carpet
by
SoftwareGuru
When the time came to design key products
like
Office 2010 and
Windows 7, a fundamental question had to be
answered.
How do you make improvements to world famous software,
adding even more useful features and yet keep it simple to use?
This is a dilemma which Microsoft have struggled with in the
past.
Cheap computers and broadband access has long since taken computing away
from the geeks and placed it firmly in the mainstream.
Ease of use now takes on far greater significance.
Adding layers of new features and options left users of older MS
products with a first impression of confusion and annoyance.
Without a doubt Microsoft Office 2010 follows in the footsteps
of Windows 7.
It is much more user friendly and in the Software4Students
articles section we'll be taking a closer look at this over the
coming weeks.

From Beta To Pro
Plus
Having tried the beta I can honestly say that
the Office 2010 Professional Plus full product is even better.
First impressions are extremely positive. Office 2010 is
noticably fast, simple to use with better layout design.
There's a stronger element of visual navigation especially in
terms of what documents you've been working with recently under
File > Recent Documents which is displayed automatically.
Users will also be glad to hear that the file button makes a welcome return
as MS ditch the Office 2007 symbol button.
After Office 2010 is installed you are prompted to connect to your free
OfficeLive account where you can share, colloborate and backup
your documents online.
Website design students can use the SharePoint workspace 2010
(part of Office 2010 Pro Plus) to sync sites to your computer and work with content
as if you were connected to the SharePoint site.

Jewel in the crown
Many critics are now describing Microsoft
Outlook 2010 as the jewel in the Office crown.
The social media explosion alongside a general increase in the
number of email accounts we use means that having a one central
hub for communications is a huge time saver.
It is so much easier now to stay organised and productive using
the various tools that Microsoft Outlook 2010 has to offer.
Social media alerts can now be treated like email.
You can respond to them depending on their priority as opposed
to logging onto websites and trawling over all the content just
to see what is new.
Lastly, it should be noted that Software4Students customers who
order Microsoft Office 2010 Professional Plus will currently
receive three DVDs if they order the physical media.
In addition to the main DVD which contains all of the listed
programs, users will receive:
- MS Business Contact Manager 2010
- MS Office Communicator 2007 R2
Unless you are an IT enthusiast running a server at home, these
bonus software applications are best left aside.
The main Pro Plus package gives you all the software
that most students will ever need anyway.
Home and student users can create their own friends and contact
lists within Outlook and the newly improved free
Windows Live Messenger is ideal for communicating online via
IM, voice or even HD video.
