Shopping Safely: Is It Safe To Order Computer Software Online?

We explain why shopping online with Software4Students is safe and the lengths we go to with each and every transaction.

3D Secure in action

To put your mind at ease, today we will brush up on online shopping security facts.

Older parents or less tech-minded web users want to be sure that shopping online is safe without having to deal with all the jargon! Let's take a look at a few tips from Software4Students.

Look At The URL Closely

As a general rule, make sure that the web address of the page starts https:// before you enter any personal information or payment details. The 's' stands for 'secure'. There should also be a small padlock that appears in the bottom or top of your screen depending on what web browser you're using. In IE7 and Firefox 3 the padlock will usually appear at the end of the URL bar.

You can find more consumer advice for online shopping on Government sites such as Consumer Direct. If you're spending over £100 online, it may be advisable to use a credit card as this may give you added protection under the Consumer Credit Act.

Online security goes hand in hand with great customer service. Our support team speaks to our customers every day and we strive to ensure every order is exactly what you require - and at a price that suits most family budgets!

What is 3D Secure Authentication?

As part of our new security measures, we are implementing 3D Secure Authentication during July 2008. 3D Secure stands for 3 Domain Secure. There are 3 parties involved in the 3D Secure process which are:

- The Vendor
- The Acquiring Bank
- Visa and MasterCard

3D Secure is a culmination of Verified by Visa (VbV) and MasterCard Secure Code (MSC). 3D Secure is the latest fraud prevention initiative launched by the card schemes as a more secure method for authenticating the shopper at the time of the transaction. Visa and MasterCard will take responsibility for 3D Secure Authenticated transactions, making online shopping safer than ever.
