A quick scan of the latest education stories reveals
somewhat of a mixed message. Initially we are warned of
Banking 'threat' to new schools while at the same time,
Universities get cash to combat unemployment.
Now the UK Government has finally started using the 'R' word,
the plan so far to combat recession is proving muddled at best -
at least as far as the education industry is concerned.
The latter news story in relation to combating unemployment does
make sense. In this new digital age, the smart economy requires
adults to have skills that they may not have learned at school.
Colleges and universities will therefore play a vital role in
the retraining of both existing workers and the recently
unemployed.
But for such a large problem, will this really make any
substantial difference to unemployment?
