YouTube Video Killed The Television Star

Learning is easier than ever

by SoftwareGuru

If you're a Software4Students customer you may have visited our Facebook and Twitter profiles. But have you checked out our YouTube page?

YouTube has arguably replaced television as the main source of visual learning outside of school.

Older parents and grandparents may not know that YouTube has more to offer than simply goofy videos of pranks and comedy mashups. You can actually learn things too if you wish.

YouTube features video clips on almost every topic imaginable.

It was only recently when I explained this fact to my Dad who wanted DIY home improvement tips that it occurred to me that perhaps something I take for granted isn't as widely understood as I'd thought.

In terms of software tips, I can't write enough encouraging things about Doug Thomas at Microsoft. His video blog updates are fun as well as incredibly useful.

His most recent video concerning the Outlook Social Connector (now with Facebook functionality) is well worth a few minutes of your time.

The Software4Students YouTube page features many more informative and light hearted clips with a software-related nature.

Doug's Office 2010 Tips

I've blogged previously about Free Office 2010 Training Materials, Videos and Benefits so you may want to bookmark that page for reference.

Staying in your comfort zone with software such as Word 2003 means that you're missing out on all the new features now available.

Look at it in terms of value. Programs you use regularly or every day will always be tremendous value for money.

You're also setting a positive example to your children in relation to taking responsibility for the choice of legal downloads.

Users will gain many fresh insights into their new software from Doug's clips.

Both Windows 7 and Office 2010 make brilliant use of pinning recently used documents to a quickstart list.

The backstage view via the 'file' program tab allows for much greater management of files.

Both Outlook 2010 and Word 2010 are so much easier to use that you will notice the ease with which tasks can be achieved.

Doug's videos are great too for covering topics such as Visio 2010 software which provides advantages that some people may not be aware of yet.
Adobe CS5 Video Tips

For students who buy the latest Adobe CS5 software, watching YouTube clips can provide a wealth of knowledge and resources.

Look at this Adobe Photoshop CS5 example. The clip shows the 'content-aware fill' option that can remove any detail or object from an image.

Watch as Content-Aware Fill magically fills in the space left behind.

This is just one of the many features available to Adobe CS5 users.

Creating 3D logos and artwork that are visually clever instead of cheesy can also be accomplished.

In this clip, see how 3D effects can be used on text within a bigger graphic. Even simply for providing inspiration or a starting point for ideas, these videos can be a springboard for your own projects.

All television sets will soon be internet capable without the need for a PC plugged in and when that happens, learning is likely to accelerate faster than ever before.

The Internet and social media have already made information easily accessible. How we digest all that information is the challenge for hardware makers.

Television as we know it will never be the same again.
